Want to be part of something bigger?

As part of my Mandate to promote and develop the hard-copy zine as physical art object, I am interested in co-ordinating zine-style art book projects!

Not ready to publish a multi-page project all by yourself? Furry Sex Comics is always looking for art submissions. I do all the technical layout work.

In general, I will publish a collaborative zine once it reaches 8 pages. The good news is that the zine format is super versatile, so we can always revise the final product to include more pages as interest dictates.

Collaborative zine policy

Zines are not particularly lucrative, and it's a pain in the butt to split revenues twenty-four different ways. Here is what I can offer to collaborative zine contributors:

  • All collaborative zine contributors may copy and distribute the finished product however they want, commercial use included.
  • All collaborative zine contributors are entitled to get mailed 1 free item from the Furry Sex Comics catalogue at my own expense, plus 1 copy of the finished product.
  • All collaborative zine profits generated by sales at my Furry Sex Comics table will be donated to a local Pride charity.

In my personal opinion, zines are meant to celebrate amateurism. I am not judging based on "quality", whatever that means.

I reserve the right to decline submissions that are irrelevant or somehow degrading to other contributors. Don't make me use it!

Draw your character eating the character on the previous page. The final page will call back to the first page, forming a closed loop.

This concept will take a little bit of coordination, as it will fall apart if any one artist pulls out. I am looking for people who are willing to commit now to produce a single piece of grayscale artwork a few months later. Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to exist.

Wanted: 6400 x 4900 pixel grayscale drawings that fit the theme. You will receive your instructions at my pleasure.

Macro Landmarks

Got a favourite local point of interest? What about a least favourite one that you kind of want to step on?

We've all* seen hundreds of generic cities get flattened by someone's fursona. Macro Landmarks is a collection of large furries interacting with specific, real-life objects and places.

Wanted: 3100 x 4900 pixel black-and-white drawings that fit the theme. Try to leave a bit of room in the composition for me to fit a title and a minimap in somewhere.

* Yup. Everyone. My experience is representative of the whole.

Notes for artists

Copybook-style zines aren't very high-fidelity. That's the fun part! A zine project never needs to be your most polished piece ever. Make sure that your art is legible in black and white.

Do not submit dark compositions. I want to support artistic freedom but ink is EXPENSIVE. Please be mindful of the fact that a dimly lit piece of letter-sized art can instantly burn more than 1 dollar of consumer-grade toner per copy.

Do not use digital screentone brushes unless you really know what you're doing. Patterns of fine pixel-size dots are very likely to cause Moiré interference patterns when resized for print.

Except in unusual cases, all Furry Sex Comics zines will be printed in a half-letter format. That means 5.5" x 8.5", which means (at 600 dpi) 3300 by 5100 pixels. Subtract 100 pixels of unprintable area around every edge and that leaves you 3100 by 4900 pixels to work with.
